As you probably know from all the media reports Birmingham and the West Midlands has a big problem with rats and mice. The Birmingham mail recently printed an article based on a survey conducted by the British Pest Control Association which claimed Birmingham to be “the rat capital of the UK”

A recent survey conducted by Populas on behalf of the property website SellingUp revealed that 44% of people would withdraw from the purchase of a property if they found evidence of pests.

A further 39% would reduce their offer price by up to a few thousand pounds.

It's that time of year again millions of flying ants seemingly everywhere. We have been inundated with calls about these pests. So what are flying ants and why do they fly?

The flying ants you encounter in your town or garden are almost certainly the black garden ant (scientific name: Lasius niger). Their nests have a single queen and typically around 5,000 workers, although there can be as many as 15,000.

The Birmingham Evening Mail have recently run several stories about “Giant Spiders” along with a number of photographs sent in by readers.

This follows on from a story about a young girl who suffered a severe allergic reaction after apparently being bitten by a spider.

So should you be afraid ?

Statistically you are far more likely to be stung by a wasp or even be bitten by a dog both of which can lead to far worse problems than a spider bite. There are no recorded deaths from any spider bites in the UK

Its been a while since we updated the blog. One reason for this was that we have been really busy but the main reason was that we have been testing how background changes have affected the way that Google ranks the website.

Anyway we have updated some pages and added a few new ones. We have done a lot of work recently capping chimneys.
